The cabin crew of British Airways has planned a strike which could impact the holiday travel over the Christmas and New Year’s season.
Around 2,500 of the 16,000 cabin crew members are planning to strike sometime after December 21 if they don’t recieve a raise better than the currently offered two percent increase.
New reports have suggested that the average salary of a British Airways crew member is much lower than previously reported. Half of the Mixed Fleet members have taken on second jobs, and two-thirds of them could not afford to take time off for sick days when they were “unfit to fly.”
Some of the crew members said that they had to sleep in their cars between flights because they couldn’t afford the gas to go to and from a place to stay, and 84 percent of them reported stress from finances.
British Airways has not seen a strike since 2010, which involved 22 different days of walkouts.
