Apparently, the Miami shoreline has been low on sand for some time already, and the city has been spending a lot of time and money trying to replace it. They’ve been pulling sand out of the ocean to put on the shore, as well as bring it in from other places, but despite the effort, it continues to be swept back out to sea.
This is an actually an issue all along the coast of Florida, and 825 miles of beaches have been labeled as “critically eroding.” Most of the sand that they bring in comes from the Bahamas, but it comes at a price.
But Miami seems to be more than willing to pay for the perfect sand since without the beach the town would certainly not be the tourist draw that it is. It’s unlikely that visitors would ever notice a difference.
Last year Miami saw 15.5 million visitors, and the popularity doesn’t seem to be dropping off anytime soon.
