Holiday travel is expected to increase, with some 45 million people expected to fly between December 16 and January 5. The company Airlines for America is reporting this data, and claims that this will be an increase of 3.5 percent from last year.
Additionally, a separate report that came from American Express Spending & Saving Tracker predicted that people will be spending 51 percent more money on their holiday travels compared to in 2015.
The report says that 52 percent of Americans plan to travel for the holidays this year, and that they will spend an average of $1,521 to do so. This is in comparison to the $605 that was the average just last year.
Claire Bennett, the Executive Vice President of American Express Travel explained further.
“The holiday season has always been one of the most popular times to travel, but this year, Americans plan to spend significantly more. One reason for an increase in spend can be attributed to their desire for shared experiences and therefore their willingness to spend on activities and events with family and friends.”
The busiest travel days this year are expected to be December 22 and 23.
