China’s transport ministry has predicted that nearly 3 billion people will be traveling during the country’s upcoming Spring Festival, which would be a 2.2 percent jump from last year. The 40 day period begins on January 13.
Travelers are accustomed to the long wait times during the holiday, but faced with an increase in travel the transportation industry is having to make some adjustments.
The transport ministry has already announced that they will be adding in some new trains and flights, as well as introducing some new measures to cut down on the sale of fake tickets.
There has also for example, already been a special training session for high-speed train attendants to prepare for the rush.
The ministry is expecting around 58.3 million airline trips, which is a ten percent jump from last year. But they’re expecting a whopping 2.52 billion trips on the road, which means there could be a lot of traffic jams going on.
