An upcoming resort along China’s Qijang River in Sichuan called the Seven Star International Cultural Tourism Resort is building a life-sized Titanic replica.
The boat will put on a show and sink for visitors to the resort to watch, flashing lights as it goes. The resort says that “The Unsinkable Titanic” ride is the “world’s only life-size Titanic remake.”
Naturally, there is already plenty of criticism about the concept since the real-life sinking of the Titanic tragically took the lives of 1,500 people. The resort has replied that the recreation will be done in a “very respectful way.”
There will also be a museum about the ship, as well as a screening of the film Titanic. The sinking Titanic will cost a reported $145.31 million to build and should be done by the end of 2017.
Curtis Schnell has spoken out about the plan as a design expert, thanks to his time as a Hollywood production designer.
“We are not building every room in the ship, by any means, but the shell of the ship and the exteriors will be quite accurate. There will be interior rooms to be able to tour and see from the standpoint of historical accuracy.”
