It’s always frustrating when a flight gets cancelled for any reason, but according to the Department of Transportation flight cancellations have actually reached an all time low. In September only 0.3 percent of flights were cancelled which is the lowest for any month since January of 1995.
They also reported that September’s on-time arrival rate was 85.5 percent which was better than August’s. The most common reasons for reported flight delays were weather, security concerns, planes that were late arriving, and issues with the crew and maintenance.
The report also announced that as far as U.S. carriers were concerned, there were not any tarmac delays over three hours for domestic flights and none over four hours for international flights.
The Department of Transportation also decided to start releasing information about discrimination complaints. They shared that between January to September of this year the Aviation Consumer Protection Division received a total of 67 complaints. Of those complaints 52 of them had to do with race, eight of national origin, one of color, two of religion, and four of gender. The rate of the complaints has increased.
