The Transportation Security Administration has been discussing their plans to expand the enrollment of their Precheck program, but they know have abandoned those plans because of the threat of cyber security breaches.
The TSA officials have been working on the expansion for about a year, but have felt forced to abandon it completely. TSA officials released a statement about the decision.
“While risk mitigations were included in the current RFP testing approach to protect the sensitive data during testing, the TSA has determined it will no longer accept the risk associated with sharing test data.”
The testing had originally utilized private companies to do the pre screening on criminal background checks and citizenship verification, but they determined that they couldn’t be sure that the sensitive information would be protected along the way.
The TSA PreCheck program currently has about four million participants, and the Department of Homeland Security has a goal of getting 25 million people into the PreCheck and Global Entry program by the year 2019.
