The “David Bowie Is” exhibition at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum has been so popular that it’s now the most visited exhibit in the 164 years that the museum has been in operation. This week the museum announced that the exhibit has seen a record breaking 1.5 million visitors.
The exhibit is a retrospective about the life and career of the multi talented musician, and it includes 300 different objects from the Bowie archives. Guests can look at handwritten lyrics, instruments, original costumes, set design details, photography, film, artwork, and music videos, among other things.
The exhibit’s co-curator Geoff Marsh posted about it on Twitter.
“Best bit is lyrics, costume, and video of Life on Mars. Lots of visitors shed lots of tears when they see these.”
Victoria Broackes, another co-curator of the exhibit also shared that Bowie had attended the exhibit himself and enjoyed it, so it must be good.
“In the course of a couple of hours he seemed to go from showing his family the objects to becoming genuinely affected by the experience.”
