Pulse nightclub was the location of the deadliest mass shooting that the United States has seen, and now plans have been announced that Orlando will purchase the building and ultimately turn it into a memorial.
Officials have reached a deal to purchase the property for $2.5 million, and Orlando’s mayor Buddy Dyer said that they will move forward with the plans after a year or so to give people more time to mourn.
It is not entirely clear what the final result will be, but the mayor is speaking openly about the process.
“We’re still gathering information. We’re looking around the country for some people that have done something like this before. There are some folks with expertise related to this.”
He shared that the ultimate goal is to “create something to honor the memory of the victims that are deceased [and] those that were injured, and a testament to the resilience of our community.”
