Italy has been hit with some massive and destructive earthquakes as of late, but that does not necessarily mean that anyone needs to cancel a trip that they already had planned. There are currently no alerts in place by the U.S. State Department suggesting travellers avoid the country.
Earthquakes in Italy aren’t all that uncommon, thanks to two different tectonic plates, the African and Eurasian. The smaller towns tend to be more greatly affected by the earthquakes, but the larger cities have more precautions in place.
Flights in and out of the towns of Rome and Umbria are currently unaffected, but to keep up on activity the Italian Civil Protection Service posts updates about seismic activity and also what’s being done to fix any damage from previous earthquakes.
One to thing to consider however, is that since many people have been displaced from their homes they will be seeking shelter elsewhere, which could make hotel bookings for the tourists more complicated than normal.
