After going through particularly bad weather and a series of terrorist attacks over the past year, Paris has seen a dramatic decline in visitors. In the period between January and August of 2016 Paris saw one million fewer tourists, and lost one billion euros each month in normal tourist income because of it.
The French current affairs radio explained that they will be launching a “charm offensive” to bring the people back.
“After visiting Tokyo, Seoul, New York and Boston to discuss with tourism professionals and investors, she has drawn up a plan to court potential visitors, scared off by terror attacks and June’s freak bad weather.”
This plan includes hiring more English speaking tourist volunteers to assist tourists at popular attractions, launching a website to offer tourists information, and offering a CityPass that will give entry to major venues as well as public transportation with a single ticket.
They will also be adding mobile police stations at popular tourist sites, as well as changing the name of “state of emergency” to “state of high security” to reduce the intimidation factor should another terror incident occur.
