A home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright located in Virginia Beach, is currently listed on AirBnb. The Cooke House was built in 1959 and was one of the last commissioned works that he did. The current owners, 90 year-old Daniel Duhl and his 80 year-old wife Jane, have been living there for years, and were actually married on the lakefront property in 1984.
The couple tried to sell the home with no success, which is why they turned to renting out the former servants’ quarters on AirBnb. For $148 a night, guests can sleep over as well as enjoy a tour and breakfast with Daniel.
Their intention for listing the property is to make the money that they need to finish doing restorations that are crucial before they can put the property back on the market.
Daniel admitted that they got the idea from their kids.
“Many times we gave a tour to someone and invariably they would say, ‘Can I rent this?’ There was no way to do that. Then we heard about Airbnb from our kids.”
As for why they’re so intent to sell, he said, “It was wonderful living here. But I’m 90. We’re ready to do something else.”
