This Halloween two lucky travelers can win a trip to Transylvania, to spend Halloween night in Dracula’s Castle. The contest is being put on by AirBnb, and the entry requires a 50 to 500 word explanation of what they would say if given the chance to meet Dracula himself.
The winner of the contest and their guest will be flown to Romania and then taken by horse-drawn carriage to Bran Castle, where they will be met by Dacre Stoker. Dacre is the great grandnephew of Dracula author Bram Stoker, and a vampire expert.
A tour of the castle awaits, as does a dinner by candlelight…and of course sleeping accommodations of two velvet-trimmed coffins. While Dracula of course is a fictional character, he and his stories were based on the real life ruler Vlad the Impaler, who stayed at the castle in the 15th century. Vlad had a habit of impaling people and not being the greatest in character.
Bran castle was formerly a military fortress, and hasn’t housed overnight guests in years, despite seeing over 630,000 visitors each year.
Dacre says that it’s always possible that Dracula will stop by, and that if “he’s still floating around, he would make an appearance.”
