Celebrity Cruises is updating their advertising campaign with what seems like a timely and pointed political message. The company’s CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said that she has “been watching and listening to what’s going on in the country, and I want to change the conversation.”
More specifically, they are planning to address not “shutting people out and building walls, and how people think of others because of the way they look, their religion or what country they’re from.”
The building walls reference of course is not a subtle echo of the discussions that have been brought up over the literal wall building plans of the Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump.
The “Sail Beyond Borders” campaign will air Monday night directly following the Presidential debate, in case there was any confusion to the reference. Lisa of course was quick to explain that the campaign is not directly supporting one candidate over another.
“I’m supporting humanity, not supporting a political candidate. This isn’t about parties. I think people, whatever side of the aisle they sit, agree with me.”
In addition to airing on TV the print ads will also be found in the New York Times, Seattle Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, and Architectural Digest.
“Far from the talk of building walls, far from the threats of keeping people out, far from the rhetoric of fear, is a world of differences — differences that expand and enrich us, because after all, our lives aren’t made better when we close ourselves off to the world; they’re made better when we open ourselves up to it.”
