Some museums are free in general, but a lot of the best ones are not. This upcoming Saturday September 24 however an event sponsored by Smithsonian Magazine called Museum Day Live will offer free admission to more than 1,200 different museums across the United States.
Museum Day Live is intended to celebrate a nationwide campaign to reach women and girls in underserved communities, and encourages everyone to get out and do some exploring.
The museums are spread out all over the country, and include free admission to options like The Museum of Flight in Seattle which has one the largest air and space exhibits, the All Things Oz Museum in New York which focuses on Frank L. Baum films, the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, the GRAMMY Museum at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, and Zoo Miami in Miami.
Searching for participating museums is easy on the Smithsonian site, which allows you to search by town as well as keywords like “automotive” if there is a certain theme of museum that you are hoping to see.
This is the 12th year that the event is taking place, and tickets can be downloaded right from the Smithsonian website to be presented at the participating attractions.
