The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has lifted a travel advisory that had been in place against the Miami neighborhood Wynwood, after determining that Zika was no longer a threat in the area.
They decided the area was safe to visit once again since there have been no new cases in the area since August. However while the Wynwood travel ban has been lifted, there is still an advisory in effect for the Miami beach area.
Mosquito season in the Miami area tends to last into the fall, so they are still suggesting that pregnant women and their partners be relatively cautious about visiting the area. People who visited the area while the advisories were in effect are being cautioned not to try getting pregnant for eight weeks even if they are showing no signs of the virus. Anyone who was diagnosed with Zika or showed symptoms of it should wait six months.
Florida has now had 93 different cases of locally transmitted Zika but they have been spraying in the area to try and cut down or put an end to the spread. Many adults who get the virus do not have any symptoms of it, but it causes severe birth defects in fetuses.
