This year the annual Oktoberfest in Munich will bring in seven million travelers from around the world, which also brings in an estimated �1.18 billion dollars. The prices for flights, accommodation, and beer are raised for the festival, but it doesn’t seem to be keeping anyone away from the party.
In fact the cost of hotel rooms goes up 85 percent for the time that the festival is going on, and the cost of flights go up 220 percent. This year the security is tighter than it’s ever been, since Bavaria had a few attacks over the summer and officials have reasonable concerns about something happening during the festival as well.
Some areas have had security fences installed where they were not needed before, and they increased the amount of surveillance cameras on the Wiesn fairgrounds where the festival is held. There are also some new rules in place for the festival, like banning any backpacks that are over a size of three liters since it is easier to carry a bomb in.
While some people decided it might not be a good year to attend the festival, seven million still felt like it was worth it. Oktoberfest has already kicked off and will run from September 17 to October 3.
